It’s almost impossible to not have any social media presence in the time we’re living in. Social media is an amazing tool to help you or your business get noticed by a wider audience online. But, you have to manage your channels to help achieve your online goals. Let’s talk about what you need to consider when managing and monitoring your social media.

Find your brand voice and tone for consistency:

There are two things to consider when finding your voice and tone:

1. What do you want your business to be known for? For your great customer service? How about for your products being made vegan and cruelty-free? Maybe you’d like to be known for your bright colors and fun packaging. Whatever it is, make sure you establish it with your audience.

2. What do you want your voice to be? Will you keep all your communication professional, or will you have a more casual approach? Establishing your brand voice will keep your posts consistent and helps humanize your brand.

Once you’ve established your voice and tone, we can move on to your content. For more about voice and tone, check out this article from buffer.com:

Make a schedule and stick to it:

The best way to make sure you’re releasing content on a regular basis is to plan and schedule ahead. The best way to plan is by making a content calendar. But what do you need to consider when making a calendar? Decide on what, when, and where you’re going to post:

WHAT- What type of content are you posting? Social media gives the freedom of all mediums, including photos or graphics, videos, audio clips, podcasts, gifs, news articles, and blog posts. Find what content works best for your business.

WHEN- How often will you post? Some businesses post every day, every other day, or only a couple times a week. What times are you going to post? Morning, afternoon, late at night? Whenever you decide to post, make sure to include the time of day on your calendar.

WHERE- What channels will you be uploading your content? Make sure your content fits the channel, such as videos going on YouTube, or photos going to Instagram. If you’re posting the same content on two different channels, make sure they fit in the standards of the channel, such as Twitter and Instagram photos being two different sizes.

Pay attention to your metrics:

When monitoring your social channels, be sure to track your metrics. Metrics can show you how you’re content is performing with your audience. Metrics can include engagement with your posts, impressions, and awareness. Be sure to be listening to what others are saying about your business online, and learn how you can improve or adjust your strategies from it. Pay attention to what content performs the best with your audience, and find what works best for your business. Invest with different programs such as SproutSocial, HubSpot, Hootsuite, and Meltwater to help you track your metrics.

Lastly, while social media management is a lot of work, remember to have fun! While we get caught up in the likes and mentions and performance, it’s a great tool that businesses and individuals can use to be creative and have their voice heard. Social media is also evolving every single day, and there will always be something new to learn and to try. So have fun, and go create content!
